The 69-year-old Gardeners’ World presenter, who lives at Longmeadow in Herefordshire where the beloved show is filmed, has taken to his social media account to share that he has performed for his final destination in his live tour.
He had been performing shows for An Audience with Monty Don, which began on November 1, and has recently wrapped up.
However, at the end of last year, Monty had to cancel some of his shows due to illness, when he was rushed to A&E. On November 26, he took to Instagram to explain his absence to his followers, and was met with a huge amount of well wishes after his hospital stay.
In the video, he can be seen with his beloved dog Ned as he says: “Hello. I am sorry to have disappointed all those people who were going to come and see me. But I was rushed to A&E. I was kept in at hospital and had to have drips and all the rest of it.”
He didn’t disclose why he was hospitalised, but his tour was soon back in full swing.
His final show of the tour has been Truro, which was one of the ones previously postponed due to his illness. Monty shared on Instagram: “The final destination is here in Truro. I should have been here in November but illness postponed things. I am delighted to be here now!”
Sadly for some fans, Monty has said there will be no more live shows for at least a couple of years.
He wrote on social media: “All set for this afternoon and the last of this show. Existing commitments mean no more for a couple of years at least.”
Fans who had managed to go and see him were delighted with the performance. One commented: “Could have listened for two more hours,” while another added: “So inspirational, very funny and you can tell a great story! Thank you! Loved it!”
