Hello and thank you for any advice!

We have 2 large Linden trees on our property. They’ve been dropping leaves that look big eaten so I had a certified arborist come out. The trees do have some Japanese beetles which they offered to spray or inject for.

Unfortunately, they noted some growth on trunk of one of the trees. The arborist told me this type of growth indicates the tree is quite decayed and is no longer structurally sound. He recommended cutting it down asap.

This tree is huge and provides most of the shade we have in our backyard/pool. I did find the arborist trustworthy and professional. But, I am just curious if anyone has another take and wanting to make sure we aren’t being led astray on something that will have a big impact.

Photos are attached – the growth is only on the side that is leaning. He said there’s a chance we could save the other side but it may not look great.

Thank you for your time!
