A few years ago when I pruned my trees I noticed a bug infestation in both of my oak trees (Texas). It was pretty far along and some bark was already falling off.

I purchased a big box store bug spray meant for trees and have been applying it every 3-4 months since then. Bugs are mostly gone (it's still nature, right?) and occasionally the tree gives off a strange odor which I think is from the injuries it sustained. I've lost a vertical limb on both that I had to cut off but the tree is hanging on and keeps growing (produces acorns, new growth, leaves shed and regrow same as my neighbors trees).

Think it's going to make it long term? Any additional care tips?
