This year marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Cahersiveen man Francie O’Donoghue and to mark the occasion his family have come together to provide a wonderful garden space at Cahersiveen Community Hospital where Francie was so well looked after.
Francie was well-known in the local community, not least in his job as a milkman but also for his love of greyhounds.
It was therefore more than fitting that his family organised a Night at the Dogs in his honour to raise funds for the hospital that looked after him so wonderfully.
The funds have been donated to St Anne’s Community Hospital with a significant sum portion used to develop a garden at the hospital which can be enjoyed by all patients including those who avail of hospice care.
For Francie’s wife Mary this is hugely important as a token of gratitude for all the care they provided to Francie and his family during his illness.

“We as a family had a fundraiser and we donated a substantial amount of money to this great hospital to show our gratitude to the kind doctors, nurses and health care assistants that looked after Francie and also looked after us as his family during this very hard time,” she said.

“We will never forget the kindness shown to us all. I think until you go through something like this you never understand properly how important these people are.”
Mary said the family including his daughters Lisa, Patricia and Casey, his son-in-law Brian Delve and John McCarthy and his grandsons Frankie Delve, Jamie and Brody McCarthy are thrilled to have honoured Francie in this way and eternally grateful to those who fundraised.
