I “rescued” this poor calathea from the clearance table at Lowe’s last month, repotted it, it collapsed, I tried to revive it, it got worse, and I cut it back. (It was my first and last calathea, lol.)
I’ve been watering its crispy corpse for the last few weeks, but I think it’s time to call it. Can I give up on it?
(A pink bead on a stick is the reminder I use for all of my plants that need distilled water. I didn’t need the pink skull to remind me that this thing is deceased. 💀)

RIP Calathea – now you can be stress free (you and the Calathea)
I have a Calathea also which will be my first and last and I’m in a similar situation as you. Mine is on hospice, aka perks up enough to think she’s on the upswing only to quickly deteriorate again – at this point I’d be relieved if she’d just die. She stresses me out.
It’s cooked
Maybe not. The first one I bought got spider mites, and I don’t know if I treated it too aggressively but all the leaves died. So naturally I thought it was toast, put it in my garage and forgot about it for a few weeks. Then wanted to use the pot for something else so I dumped it, lo and behold it had started growing again, just hadn’t broken through the soil yet. Quickly repotted it, now it’s a small pretty plant 🪴
He’s dead Jim.
My calathea looked like this for a while and now it has 2 new leaves coming out of the grave. As long as the roots are healthy it can still possibly bounce back
