I feel kind of dumb for not knowing this but I've never grown Jaleps before. It's definitely thriving! I just don't know when they're ready. The little plant tag didn't really give any information and Google needed to know what KIND of Jalep it is… which I don't know? I have no idea if this is the type that turns red or not. I'm growing these because my 15yr old son loves spicy things. I included a photo of the plant tag. Please help?

You would go by the seeds maturity. Once they are a little bigger they make seeds which ripen perfectly inside hanging on the bush for a long time. If you want to pick and eat one you can try it anytime they are a little bigger. They are eaten green or red.

You can let them ripen and turn red, which will generally impart a sweeter flavor. It might not do so completely evenly, but generally they’re ripe when they’re at a “mature sign” and a deep green color. Signs of corking are also an indicator that they’re mature size.
