My teenage nephew offered to help me with yardwork and I think he accidentally killed my gold mop cypress. He offered to cut it back and now it looks like this. It looks terrible now but I don’t know if the bald spots will grow in, or if he basically killed it.

It will eventually grow back in, but you may actually want to trim it shorter so when the new green fills in, you can actually trim it to around the path/border and keep the out side green. This will take several years.
I’d put a bunch of super thrive on the soil. Hopefully that helps regrow it faster
