I’m in Michigan and just put our tree out for the summer. She’s currently in a shaded area to acclimate her to direct sun on the deck. Where should I prune and when do I do it?

Don’t be scared! You could literally prune off all its leaves and it would still come back. Prune it into the shape you want! Best time is in the spring or now works too. Just don’t do it in fall or winter when growth stagnates

You got a number of possible cuttings as well. They root relatively fast.

You can shop wherever you see fit just make sure that it’s with clean pruner right under where a leaf is or where a leaf was. Also, a lot of of people don’t remember to fertilize, but I fertilize mine every week during the spring and summer.

  4. I personally would prune off the parts that have become very leggy without leaves. I’d probably prune the back stalk, just above where the trunk branches off, and prune each of the branches that are mostly bare. Leave the fuller growth in the front alone. This will give you a bushier and fuller plant. Good luck!
