This apple tree is going on its 3rd year. Unfortunately the neighborhood deer have really beat it up. Has a lot of wounds, and just looks like a hurting unit. Should I let nature take its course, or is it a lost cause and I should plan to replace it? Thanks in advance for your input!

I’d replant 3 or more of the small growing apples and do something to protect against deer if you want to keep them. You can leave yours for now and plant around it if possible. Give them something to eat besides the good trees.

You have to exclude the deer. Hopefully this will recover.

  3. You could put some wire mesh around it for a couple of years while it matures. No need to write this one off just yet.
