Hello! I'm an amateur gardener who's been propagating an African Violet leaf in water for at least 7 months now. Since the mother leaf is slowly disintegrating (see pictures), I'm thinking that it's time to move the cuttings into soil. However, my local garden store doesn't carry the special African Violet soil, but recommended an "organic potting soil" as a substitute. I checked their website, and it has the following ingredients:
- Natural Peat Soil
- Peatmoss
- Coir
- Perlite
- Steer Manure
- Aged Bark Mulch
- Sand
- Chicken Manure
- Hydrafiber
- Organic Fertilizer
- Dolomite Lime
- Zeolite
- Kelp Meal
Will this mix be all right for my cuttings, or do I just get the African Violet soil just to be safe? I found that a nearby hardware store carries it (see here), but in my opinion it's way too much for what I'll end up using for now (9L).
Also, any other advice about propagating an African Violet for a newbie gardener like me? Thanks!
