Hi! I honestly know nothing about keeping African violets alive, but the purple and white striped ones have always been my favorite flower. So, when I saw this one at the store, I knew I wanted to take it home. The petals have started curling in on themselves.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? I just put it into this smaller pot. It was in a much larger one but I read where they like smaller ones. The soil is damp currently, but I may have been overwatering? I’ve had it for about a week so it’s possible I’ve been watering it too often.

It is currently under a grow light which I just installed yesterday. The weather in Georgia (USA) has been pretty dreary so we haven’t had a lot of sun. That, and my back porch doesn’t get much sun in general.

Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!

AVs don’t like to be too wet and are susceptible to root rot. I water mine once a week via bottom watering. Prune off the shriveled flowers and allow the soil to dry out a bit before the next water. They also like bright indirect light!

It’ll perk up with more light! Maybe start some stem cuttings too!

I can’t tell from the picture, but does the pot have drainage? The leaves look like either under watering or over watering. Like SuperNova, I mean SuPurrNova said, take off the flowers and allow it to dry a bit before watering again. Looks like a couple of leaves have turned brown, if so, those can be removed too. Best of luck.
