Last week I made a post suggesting adding this product to your pile would speed up the decomposition process. Wrong!

Again this week I filled the bin with grass clippings and a little shredded cardboard. I DID NOT add anything else. Eight hours later the thermometer read 120F and the next morning it was 130F!

So to everyone who said…
That it wasn't needed…
That all the nitrogen in the grass made it inevitable…
AND…
The person who reminded me that the natural microbes far outweigh anything that I might add…

ARE RIGHT!

Thanks for discussion and encouraging me to test my assertion.

I think there is still merit in the idea of adding nutrients to your pile. Sure, your situation has the Nitrogen needed, but some folks only put leaves in their pile, or are starved for Nitrogen over the winter/early spring.

Yeah, my spring grass clippings are taking care of all the dumb stuff I threw in last year. Like whole pumpkin stems and a big ass straw bale that my wife wanted for Halloween

I added accelerator 1x on my very first pile in my pristine jora tumbler. After that, the leftovers from previous pile are more than able to get it going.

Just want to say I appreciate you coming back after running a test and updating us with results. It takes a true kind of maturity and honesty to admit to being wrong and updating with your findings. Sadly this seems increasingly rare…

If you don’t have grass clippings it might be helpful. Grass clippings are notorious for being hot. What was your composting vessel of choice? A pile will heat up that grass even faster because of the sun.

How much grass clippings are you putting in? I’m about to have a bunch of cardboard to get rid of and I want to really cook my compost! I’m waaaay too cool right now!

lol I remember your post last week I was the commenter that noticed this is a big bag of nothing. If I remember correctly it was something like 98.9% nothing. So you paid all that money for paper or some other inert stuff.
