I've been trying to propagating this mother leaf since Aug last year. The stem was originally about 1 inch long but has grew longer. She has a ton of roots, looks like the roots are outgrowing the pot. Does the long stem makes it harder to propagate? Should I cut the stem shorter and try again? Should I give her a bigger pot?

She's in a 1 oz cup and growing under a grow light in a container.

Please advise. I'm not giving up on this mother leaf!

  1. Seems like it’s putting a lot of effort into the roots and stem. Try cutting the stem at an angle, closer to the leaf. Put into 100% vermiculite, and keep it damp for a while.

Took my leaf a year on a water prop. Barely did anything for a while then starting putting out roots. At a year, the roots were good enough (to me) to move to soil.

My soil props? I forgot about. They were under domes and my kid kept watering them once every few months, sparingly. A full year, they were little baby plants.

My biggest suggestion is to make sure you put a dome or a clear plastic glass over the leaf to have the humidity help

How far is the leaf buried? And how long is the stem?

I had the same issue and realized once I dug down that all the babies were completely under the soil. I would try to unearth the roots to see what’s up.

ETA: the fact that the mother leaf is still alive is a good sign.

I agree with OP stem is too long . Cut it to about 1.5 in from leaf. I know you waited all this time, but unfortunately she’s putting a lot of energy into her own leaf. And not putting out babies and you’ll have to wait again
