i am definitely not 100% sure but it could be bacterial/fungal. just my opinion. curious to see what others say

Looks like sunscald but not likely in northfacing

Hmmm, if nothing has changed as far as sun exposure for years maybe something different with the water or soil ph? I’m just guessing here but I ran into that issue with one of mine. The light conditions the same but I became less diligent with using filtered water and my AV’s were not pleased with the slightly hard water I had started using! 😬
Edit to add: is it just on one side of the plant or all the way around? That might help narrow down if it’s a light/sun issue or something else?

She says the side away from the window looks fine. I also thought it was sun damage at first.

Did she perhaps spray a cleanser to dust the shelf? A cat lays there against it? Pushed against a cold window? Window cleaner?
Regardless of the cause, this is sun or mechanical damage. It’s not hurting anything and won’t progress unless the factor that caused it reoccurs.

Very interesting since my newest AV is supposed to be in spots and it’s not as pretty as yours yet mines called space fairy and it only gets more spots when it’s in colder conditions maybe it’s cold I really don’t know just had to put that out here ✌🏼

Ive had one and suspected cold water/ edema. I use tap water and let it sit for few days. The outer leaves will stay damage. The weather is warming up so mine stop doing that and the new growth are doing fine.

It’s my violet. I haven’t changed anything in its care or location. I’m not sure how it could get sun scald in the north-facing bay window, but that’s a good guess since the side away from the window looks fine, at least so far. My other violet is in a different north-facing window and looks fine.
