This technique can be used to restart any crown for any reason, whether it be done as an emergency procedure for a broken neck or as part of your regular maintenance. This technique can also be used to root suckers although you will not have the added support of a neck stub when dealing with suckers. Much of the information in this video comes from "Growing to Show" by Pauline Bartholomew, which can be read for free here: "Growing to Show" via Internet Archive. I also do speak a great deal from personal experience.

Do let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns. As always, I am more than willing to discuss anything further here in the comments for the sake of the group.

Thank you for your time.

I had to decap 20+ avs this past month during my repot. I love minis and micro mini, but they seem to require a lot more decapitation than the standards.

I lost two of them which made me feel a sense of loss I did not expect. Your ending message made me feel better. Thank you.

“Growing to Show” is a current publication of the African Violet Society of America. The current and complete version can be purchased on their website at AVSA.org. It raises funds to support the organization which promotes African violet culture, education, conservation, horticulture related scholarship and research. If you would like to read and learn from “Growing to Show” please purchase a copy from the website and support AVSA. If you join AVSA you receive a nice discount on the book and others that are also available.

Can this post be made a sticky at the top of the sub? This question gets asked about every five minutes. A well made and informative video like this could really help people who are just getting into AVs!

So do you discard the root ball entirely?
