I bought this online and it was just delivered. It’s in the plastic pot it came in. I just dropped it into this planter until I get a new one this weekend. But I’m not sure what to do about these roots. Do they need a bigger pot? Should they be exposed or covered by dirt? What do I need to know when I repot this??

Re pot it it’s rootbound
Plenty of utube videos on “how to”
Did it come exactly like this or have you removed it from its original soil? I’m shocked if it came this way. I can’t even see any soil whatsoever! From what I can see I would suggest repotting it in a pot no bigger than 3” than the one it came in. Use a well draining soil like coco coir, perlite and orchid bark. And cover the roots completely with soil. They shouldn’t be so exposed.
And TBH, FLFs can be pretty finicky so if it were me I would try to keep everything as intact the way it is when repotting, including whatever soil is actually in that pot and just add more to make sure it’s got enough to cover all the roots and enough for the roots to expand and grow into. Some people would probably disagree with using the soil it came it but I find that causes minimal disruption and stress to the plant. At least it looks healthy otherwise.
Repot and cover with soil.
I’m constantly topping up the top with new soil mix like mentioned previously : soil mix that is about half potting soil and half orchid bark and perlite.
Does the pot you put it in have drainage holes? It looks to be the right size. Just use a good well draining soil like the other poster suggested. It’s really root bound.
