I propagate in domed dessert cups. I pretty much prepare them then forget about them under the grow lights for a few months.

This one has interesting roots to see! It’s quite a wet environment despite me almost never watering them. I thought I would share this interesting root pic.✨

That’s crazy. I find it so interesting to see because when you repot them, the roots seem like an afterthought. But to see them at work, you start to understand what can go wrong down there, if that makes sense? It helps me remember not to overpack the soil, that they’re down there doing all of the hard work.

Oooh very nice. Do you recommend this over just regular water propping? My leaves have been in water for 2 weeks and not a single root 🤦‍♀️

I’m a rookie at propagating! I have read that soil propping is better than water propping because the roots have to go through such a shock when going from under water to loose soil? Water propagation for hydroponics, soil propagation for soil plantings is how I learned it.

I know many friends here water prop with success, so do what works best for you.

My method is basically the “plant the leaf in dessert cup, lightly water it, seal the top then give up and forget about them until you see babies” method. 😬

I will try it your way because no matter how well mine looks in water I inevitably kill it after I transfer to soil. Will you please share a better photo of the container you used?

Thanks for the tip! Having no hole is probably key… I was considering saving my coffee drink containers but that won’t work.
