I started this leaf in December of last year. It was 1 of 12, and it’s the only one that’s grown past the sprout stage. The others grew tiny little plantlets and then just stopped growing. I know it’s time to separate. This is a micro-mini of Ukrainian variety and I think there’s more than one plant here? I’m terrified that I’m going to kill it, I’ve separated plantlets once before this but they were much bigger. This one is the size of my thumb, maybe slightly larger. Can anyone offer advice here? Can I just cut the mother leaf at its stem?

Leave the mother leaf on. It will photosynthesize and help the babies grow, and when it’s done, it will shrivel away. How big is this pot? These guys are overpotted, try to get the smallest little pot you can possibly get. Some people use disposable plastic condiment cups because they’re the only thing small enough to hold such little plants.

When you repot, try to use a spoon to carefully scoop them out to prevent disrupting their rootstocks at all. That’s the best way to make sure they don’t experience shock, especially because these are the last remaining out of 12.

Your potting mix looks great and the plants look healthy. I wouldn’t separate until you’ve got them well established and figured out, they aren’t in any rush to be separated and already have very beautiful distinct crowns (you’ve got 2 there).

Also, for starting the leaf in December and already having 2 distinct pups is great timing. They’re growing plenty fast for a micro mini

I’ve never grown micro minis, but my miniatures tend to grow slower than my standard size violets. Just give them time, they really look great! Please reach out if you need any more advice!
