Recently had two ash trees pollarded by landscapers who were only supposed to carry out a 30% reduction but told us that the trees were both infected with ash dieback and ended up taking about 70-80% of each tree off. Just wanted to check that what they have said is true and that what they have done was essentially the only option besides felling the trees? They indicated that the redness in the central rings was where the infection had already taken hold and they cut back to where the redness was not visible and left the limbs they said looked healthy.

Probably should’ve hired an arborist. I’m sorry that happened to you. As far as ash trees go, around me, they have all died from emerald ash borer. Maybe this is what they were referencing? You would start to see sucker growth towards the base of the tree.
