For some context. This tree was wrapped with a vine (previous owners). I had the vine removed. Now, a couple of years later the tree is shedding bark.

I finally got a company over to inspect the tree. He said that the tree is alive and healthy, about to bloom. But experienced structural damage and it’s decaying. He recommended taking down the entire tree.

The vine took a toll on the tree and you can see that the side of the tree with worse vine is the one decaying. The arborist pointed out that one branch was cracking. He also said the gaps were too large to “heal.” The tree will continue to slowly decay, he said.

Do I really need to take it down? Can I just cut the one branch?

Yes. it’s dead/ dieing the longer you wait the harder it is for the arborist

Not an expert here. I would say it’s not an emergency to take it down. Wait until spring and summer and you will see which branches have leaves. Don’t confuse the dead vines with tree branches. Any tree you feel is a danger to your life or family then you should hire get a second opinion from an expert
