I love growing colocasias, but boy can they get looong sometimes. Especially since I don't always have the best light. Has anyone observed any other factors that may affect petiole length, such as nutrients? I would like to increase the leaf:petiole ratio however possible.

  1. Never grown a colocasia but i def think light is the biggest factor with petiole length

Long petioles= searching for light. These grow great outdoors if you live in the correct zones!

As said by others, light has the biggest impact on leaf size. Don’t only consider brightness, but also proximity of the light.
Nutrition wise, you could experiment with lower nitrogen values, for nitrogen supports big vegetative growth. Aquarium fertiliser is usually low in nitrogen as this would support algae growth.
That’s all I can think of

Light is definitely the biggest factor, but you could view nutrition as sort of a background supporter. Poor nutrition = poor growth
