@THERUSTEDGARDEN
You should try growing a big tomato plant indoors just to take cuttings off of to make more. Saves on dirt and space.
I'm scared to spread the fertilizer on snow because I don't want to inadvertently hurt the birds
I am so ready to get started doing something 🙂 I already ordered a bare root nectarine and bought seeds from you to start. This was so wonderful to watch. Thank you
Once the seedlings grow a bit bigger, but may still be too cold to transplant outdoors, do they still need to be under grow light? I’m concerned I’ll start running out of room inside soon!
Just a note about organic ferts if you have dogs. They love the blood meal/bone meal. If you're spreading it on your beds over the winter, it shouldn't be where the dogs can get to it or they will dig it all up and eat what they can.
Compost piles caused me to atttract rodents and bugs
Hey Gary, your doing a great service to all of us and deserve a massive THANK YOU. You are humble and kind and dont deserve some of these petty comments by the children.
Quick question: i started a tray of spinach, peppers and zinnias on Jan. 6 indoors under grow lights and now noticed super small bugs/flys crawling on my plants. Do I go with the cold press neem oil, hydrogen peroxide or a light dusting of severn dust? Dave
Thank you for your videos, you are always a wealth of useful information.
Hey Gary I'm still here just haven't been very talkative lately i had surgery last year and it really knocked the wind out of my sails UT I wanted to let you know I'm here and I'm thankful for your video s
I started my sweet potatoes yesterday thanks for the reminder
Informative! I will get started with my sweet potatoes and ginger this weekend here in Northern Virginia
I’m planning on doing a soil drench this year, would you recommend doing the drench prior to adding fertilizer?
Wow, how much did it cost to make that fencing? 🤩🤩🤩🤩😍
Hi Gary,
I thinned down the seedlings sprouted in round one, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. A couple days ago, I pruned a few fruit trees. It took longer to get the lopper out of the shed than to prune three branches. This morning, I sowed seed cells with oregano, dill, and marjoram seeds.
With round two, the tomatoes have sprouted, and are almost ready to separate and repot. The basil, and the first pepper plants are sprouting. All that is left for round two is sowing seeds for cilantro. I’ll probably do that tomorrow. I need thirteen cells for transplants into my tomato beds. Their stink bug odor works great for repelling horn worms. Too bad it isn’t as effective for army worms. I have chickens, so revenge will be served as a sweet treat for the ladies.
As soon as I have room on my heat mat, I’ll start working on leafy greens and flowers, Tokyo Bekana Mustard, Pak Choy, Fordhook Swiss Chard, Romaine lettuce, assorted leaf lettuces (I mix my seeds, so it is mystery lettuce.), marigolds, alyssum, amaranth, zinnias, cosmos, purple cone flower, butterfly weed, and butterfly flower. Anything else I have seeds for will be planted too.
I have similar weather in Sylacauga, AL. I expect to start transplanting, weather providing, in the last week of February. If the weather outlook is favorable, I may try sneaking my snow peas, and shelling peas in a week early. This is also when I direct sow seeds for my root crops, carrots, parsnips, golden beets, turnips, and radish (Malaga and German Giant).
I’ll complete my garden with cantaloupe, watermelon, zucchini, cucumbers, and Mammoth Sunflowers. Around May 1st, I’ll plant sweet potatoes behind the mustard and radish. I’ll plant beans in late spring after the carrots and parsnips have been harvested. That is pretty much what I am working with. I’ve made it year-round the last three years. Instead of growing larger, I am working on timing to maximize production through the growing season. My goal is to grow at least three crops in thirteen of sixteen raised beds. I may not make it this year, but next year for sure. Timing is going to be tight for planting everything that I want to grow. I'm thinking I may have to go with hybrids for my brassicas next year for disease resistance and faster growing times. I'm researching and selecting seed options for this fall.
Wow, ive been looking for japanese purple yams.. where did you find them ?
ok Gary, I cooked my soil in the oven for about 3-4 hrs and then when I dumped it out I poured boiling water over it to hydrate it. Now I have the nats all in my kitchen. What could I have done wrong🤪🤪🤪
