100% agree eggplant and peppers fantastic in pots. also green beans! easier to harvest too.
I pick up 5 gallon pickle buckets for $3 a piece from Firehouse Subs. All my peppers are in buckets this year and going/growing like crazy.
Hey Tuck! My Ruthie digs lounging holes too – hers is behind the roses!
❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Peppers and tomatos are perennials but cant handle cold weather. You can bring them inside and grow em under lights for year round harvests. Also ive only had blossom end rot on my potted peppers bc of them drying out easier
shade cloth could solve a lot of this
Just out of curiosity, do you prune your peppers at the end of the season and over winter them? Or are you planting them from seed every season? I'm going to try to over winter mine this year and was just curious.
This year I have had so many peppers. I'm growing them in cat litter square buckets. I can fit 10 square buckets in a bucket rack made of 2x4s where as I could only fit 8 round 5 gallon buckets in the same rack. Also I use grass clippings as mulch in each bucket to keep the soil moist and make weeding easier.
I grew 3 types of peppers in my garden. My first attempt. The plants looked wonderful things were looking great until I opened them up. 100% crop Failure due to Pepper Maggots. 100%. Not sure if I will grow them again even in containers.
I put my pepper plants in pots. They did not do well with the excessive rain. I found out that the leaves are edible and will be harvesting and dehydrating them.
I have grown peppers in small pots for years, some are over 4 years old now. Pepper don’t mind if they go dry sometimes 😊
❤❤❤4 Tuck. Keep cool. My sisters husband puts his peppers in containers but it takes up alot of space on their patio and or kitchen. I do agree, they take up alot of space. In the garden/ground, they sprawl. I may consider for a few next year. Thanks
Love your shirt! Love to Tuck too!
Thank you so much I have learned so much from you and my raised beds from your sight are wonderful
I keep learning new ways to have great garden and will continue to harvest better ea season
Caren
Good idea! This was my first year growing peppers so I did both just in case. Actually I'm not growing anything else so far, but will keep this in mind the more experienced I become. Btw, my yields have been much better in ground than in containers.
I have a cat. Therefore I have lots of cat litter buckets. I had decided to drill holes in these for next year's peppers because I did it by accident once and that plant did great! But I thought the peppers just didn't like my dirt. Thanks for the info. Now I understand WHY it worked.
Hello, do you have any flowering plants around for pollination?
Hi James, I've been planting my eppers in buckets for the past two season with very good results. Next season i will also plant my eggplants in buckets as well. Hi Tuck❤
I love Tuck eating peppers! ❤Great tips, we're going to try these since we love peppers!
always grow peppers!
I've been growing peppers in 10 gallon planters for years. I've had Poblano and Jalapeno pepper plants grow 6 feet tall in containers before. I couldn't believe it. One beneficial aspect i find from growing in containers is it helps with plants that require warmer soil temps. Container soil warms up significantly faster than the ground does in spring.
I have been growing my hot peppers just in front of my raspberries, so they get a bit of shade from the raspberry branches.
I recently noticed a tomato plant aggressively growing behind the raspberries up against the kitchen wall (south facing). Next year I will try some tomato plants in the same location as an experiment, to see how well they do.
I make pepper sauce from the habanero peppers, and freeze the raspberries and scotch bonnet peppers, for use over the next year up to a fresh harvest.
