  1. "You don't learn life skills in school. You learn how to sit down, pay attention and do what you're told." Funny. I'm self employed- I own an s-corp- and the hardest parts of my job are when I have to sit down, pay attention and complete tasks that someone else requires… like taxes. Or payroll. Or contract reviews. Huh. Maybe I did learn some life skills in public school.

  2. Do these unschooling moms think that those who've been to school can't shop, clean, or do taxes? Those are generally up to the parents to teach, but they generally are, in fact, taught. Being in school didn't stop us from learning those things. I don't think life skills would be the best reason to unschool. If you're going to unschool, let it be because it's very soothing to be out in nature, and helps anxiety. Let it be a temporary thing, until the kids are ready for more rigorous study. Running loose in the woods CAN become a career, because there are guides, and trackers, and environmental researchers, and animal rescuers, and log cabin builders, and reforesters, and these can grow out of being in nature all the time. I still feel like the kids might need some direction, so they can really learn their craft. They will need lessons for any skilled job. Letting them be wild is fabulous, but not exclusively. Not forever.

  3. Thank you for your take as an educator!! I deeply respect and thank all educators out there ❤ I worked for a nonprofit that partnered with special education teachers to offer additional resources for reading, goal setting, sensory needs… Those teachers worked so hard and the kids needed all of that support. They worked so hard to learn to read, manage their emotions, etc. It’s absolutely child neglect to deny your child access to these resources!!!!

  4. What was a DEAD giveaway that she was deep in the MLM rabbit hole was when she referred to her future descendants as her "downline"

  5. Rainbows don’t have pink 😂
Red orange yellow green blue indigo and violet😂! Light is all colors combined while black is the absence of color. You better believe there are secondary colors mixed in with the primary colors because a rainbow is a refraction off of water and light is allllll colors combined

  6. Omg! When done right, unschooling requires so much more effort from the parent than regular homeschooling. Yes, child-led learning is the best way to go about it. Child led learning is very hard for the adult to accommodate. You have to be able to research things at the drop of a dime, and be very good at finding resources " in the wild".

  7. Young women are too stupid to raise children.
Schools in California actually do indoctrinate kids without asking.
When I was little I was terrified of the truant officer, who I pictured as a big guy dressed like a 1950's detective only with a big badge saying truant officer. After 2 days they'd drag me off to school. I was one of the only kids with a working mom. Everyone else's moms stayed home.

  8. I get your point but schools these days are not good education systems so I think she has more of a point than you.
    Just my ooinion

  9. Kelsey Rhae sounds like some of the far right people I hear talking about how horrible America is. These poor kids. I’ll stop now because I don’t want to go on a political rant.

  10. I get the necessary safeguard, and I’m all for the extra protection, but we definitely need to revamp something if a doctor’s note is required. Whereas it’s “annoying” to some people, it’s unaffordable to others. We’re lower middle class, we don’t qualify for government assistance but we don’t make enough to afford decent healthcare that covers more than just an annual checkup. Kids get sick a LOT, and if the school’s going to require a doctor’s note every time he gets sick, we’re going to need something better because I can’t afford to take my kid to the doctor every single time he has a slight fever, but at the same time, I’m not allowed to bring him to school if he has a fever (nor would I want to, but the point still stands) I’d much rather put that money away for when he actually does need to see a doctor, but that’s not an option according to the school.

  11. YouTube has people believing that unschooling is doing nothing. They've never read the book. It's just supposed to be an interest lead philosophy and it worked in the 70s and 80s. Boredom is the key. Kids today have too much online time and materials to seek-out education.

  12. I'm curious about how this is legal. Isn't it law that you have to educate your kids in some way, and if you're doing it yourself, you have to follow the rules and regulations?

  13. Unschooling is child abuse. It’s akin to believing a child can choose an alternative gender. Madness.
