Poor fella must have fell in. There was 3 inches of water in the bottom. I heard sloshing around in the dark and thought the oil delivery guy left the lid off the tank and a bird had fallen in. Turns out he was in an empty water drum. He was running in circles. I tipped it over and he went into the night screaming at me like something from a horror movie. Fencing I put around the chickens must have been good enough to keep him out!

I have one that lives in a tree by the gateway… I call him Bob. He loves lard balls that would you leave out for the birds….

Are these things like minks? Are they comparably aggressive?

They’re amazing animals but absolutely vicious. Double check your chicken pens and make sure any gaps are closed tight.
I lost over 40 birds in one night to a single pine marten. He had climbed the wall of the shed and in through a gap under the ridge. The gap was only a couple inches but it was enough apparently.
As much as I hate seeing them near my birds I love seeing them out and about. Never saw them as a young lad. Now I see them most days.

Aggravating as they are when you keep chickens,I think their favourite prey is those non-native squirrels and they’re doing a good job decimating them,so the cute lil’feckers are useful.

Make sure to check your coup is secure. That like chap gets in to visit the chickens and he will kill every one of them.

Be careful you can get in trouble for messing with them
