About this video:
I’m often asked questions about the Evergreens I have in my garden. If you have been around the channel for a bit, you know that I have an affinity for Conifers. Evergreens play a vital role in a garden, providing year-round structure, color, and texture. Unlike deciduous plants that lose their leaves in the winter, evergreens retain their foliage, offering consistent visual interest even during the colder months. They serve as the backbone of garden design, anchoring beds, borders, and pathways with their reliable presence. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, evergreens offer practical benefits, such as acting as windbreaks, providing privacy, and creating habitats for wildlife. Their enduring nature makes them an essential component of a well-balanced and beautiful garden. I hope that this video helps you identify some new Evergreens for your garden.
Thanks for watching – Steph (Gardening in Massachusetts zone 6b). #gardening

  2. I have been scared to plant evergreen trees. Choosing the wrong one. You have inspired me to add some.
I wonder if running metal mesh/chicken wire and using existing woodland trees to keep dear out. It could be stacked for added height.
Omg the skeleton 💀 is awesome!

  3. Wow…I loved seeing the before picture! The transformation is incredible and all of that texture and contrast is sweet perfection! Thank you for this! video. I can't grow most of these, but I love evergreens and still like to learn all about them!

  4. Thank you so much for this. It was the video I didn’t realize I had been wanting. Your evergreens give such great structure to your garden.

  5. This growing big blue spruce, you maybe can trim/limb it up as topiary little by little and eventually I guess it will grow over the house as topiary.

  6. Hi Steph! Please don’t ever cut your blue spruce … it will be ok there. Love all your evergreens! Thanks for all your great videos.😊💖🌲

  7. Very nice video, as always! I really enjoy your thoughtful placement of the evergreens and Japanese maples to best set off the variety of color, shape, form, and texture. Brava!

  8. So beautiful thankful for sharing Steph! I have been wondering about all of your evergreens. If you have a spot in full sun I highly recommend Junipers, a moon glow would be so beautiful tucked in your landscape.

  9. I’m also in a zone 6B climate, but in the transition zone where we get lows down to -15 and highs up to 110 in the summer (usually for weeks at a time) with no rain in the hottest part of the summer (80% of our rain falls between April & June). On top of this, we get constant winds and have lower humidity and clay soil. I’m really wanting to up my evergreen game, but having a hard time figuring out how much water things need to be happy in our climate without being a slave to the garden. Do you have any helpful learning tips for me?

  10. Hi Steph, instead of moving the blue spruce, can you selectively prune and thin it out by using the bows for holiday decor? It is big and bold, but quite a stunner!

  11. Ohhhh! I love all of them!! You’re such an inspiration. I’m a new gardener and I love your channel ❤❤❤

  12. Love seeing these evergreens, especially the wewping varieties! I don't think we can grow most of those in zone 8a, but this video is an inspiration in layering texture and color in the garden. Just lovely.❤

  13. How wide is the forever goldie evergreen in your garden? I am afraid I planted mine too close to each other. The tag said 3.5’ but yours look wider? Love your videos!
