Bloody hell long time no see youth how yer keeping glyn
Hi Ivan everything looking good considering all the rain we've had. My containers are absolutely saturated through and I'm deeply concerned about root rot, praying this weather picks up, but as you said just got to keep going. Take care and keep them coming. Ps how about a video sometime about how to store and amend your used compost, I go through bags and bags of the stuff, so saving a bit of money would be welcome. Cheers Steve.
Do lettuce need big pots. I'm growing iceberg for the 1st time
try sally lettuce instead of little gem. just the same size but very sweet.
Thanks for the video Iven, All the best Tim ๐
Ivan excited to tell you planted 4 potatoes in a container that a plaster uses an got 5 lbs 4 once back…..with your help it worked thanks
Everything is SOPPING wet; I've raised most of my pots onto bricks or similar, so they can at least drain! All I can do is be optimistic.
like a mind reader, the last week or so i've barely paid attention to the containers coz of the weather, the wind tore up my big tomato plants quite bad, decimated most my garden peas and folded some of my onions. it's been a weird one, the potatoes i have in the ground grew weird cherry tomato looking fruit! never seen that before but after a Google had to get rid ASAP as they're poisonous and i have small children. my container potatoes didn't have the issue, nor did they flower like the ones in the ground. so different.
Thanks for vlog Ivan as you say we just have to keep going inspite of all this wet weather ๐
I've just watched the met office 10-day forecast – pretty depressing, more of the same! But you're right Ivan, gardening is all about rolling with the punches isn't it, so we all have to make the best of it… Just don't have the appetite to eat more than 10% of my current salad crop! ๐
The rain has battered a lot of my own outdoor plants and the greenhouse needs some more sun to turn the tomatoโs red. My courgettes though have grown like crazy in containers in the greenhouse this year . Hope it brightens up soon .
I'm doing a potato harvest today. Hope I get as many as you from 1 pot. Those lettuce your planting will be ready to harvest soon. Wishing more sun for you, more rain for me.
So no heatwave as previously predicted ๐ฎ๐
And you wonder why so many Brits leave the UK in the summer for a decent holiday. It's been bloody miserable this year.
It is disheartening when your plants suffer because of the weather but it's something we can't control, I'll keep going cos I enjoy it. Thanks Ivan for the update, always interesting…
Ps, those petunias look beautiful..
Thanks for the update Ivan, and thanks for all the encouragement to keep going.
thanks for all your advise Ivan
I'm not giving up, I just keep going, remove the slugs and keep checking on plants, I had a good harvest of mange tout&sugar snaps, not as good as last year but enough for the dogs& I figured we haven't really had our spring or summer yet so yesterday& today I sowed more mange tout and sugar snaps so here's hoping summer is on way ๐
I have felt dispair at the rain, slug and snail damaged. It's been prolific! I am determined to get some food from the garden, so I won't give up.
Thanks Ivan, those lettuces look really nice, it's been dark and drizzling here all day. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Ivan good vid as usual. Is it possible in the future could you do a list of what to buy when it comes to end of season things get cheaper ie Fertillizers etc as you know i gave up allotment and going to start again in small back garden so what to buy would be of help
Get some feet for your pots to stand on Ivan – that way the water drains out. I got some from Amazon but Temu do them as well. If you stand them directly in the concrete it is just stuck underneath and cannot drain away no matter how many holes. Iโve been planting spinach, rainbow chard and kale. Delicious. They live the cold wet weather!!
I started off some little gem seeds in a small plant pot, just to see if I can grow any. A few strands are appearing now. Hoping they will take ๐
Why are the flowers falling off my runner beans plants please
