This greenhouse was on the property when we bought our house. I’ve been using it in the shoulder seasons but it’s in major need of some TLC! I’m already planning on pulling the doors and plastic later today but the frame is mostly in good shape. A few boards I will need to replace but not many.

Once the frame is back in good shape I’m going to brace the structure and move it by carefully rolling it on logs to a better location next to the garden and orchard. Currently it doesn’t get a lot of sun in the shoulder seasons due to sun angle from the south being blocked by trees and shed next to it blocking the western sun. In the new location it will be next to our pole barn and I can easily run power to it. I would like to add outlets and exhaust fans. When I have it in the new location I’m going to scrape the chipped paint a repaint the frame.

I’m looking for advice on what I should cover the greenhouse with. Would it be practical to do polycarbonate or should I use plastic film again? I don’t love the sliding doors and considering replacing them with hinged doors — open to advice here though. Anything else you would do? Eventually I would like to build a nicer greenhouse to our liking but that’s not going to happen anytime soon. The house is undergoing a full exterior remodel and inside is next. I don’t see us building a new greenhouse for a while and would like to redo this one so that it lasts us a while.

I’d just clean it up and plan on replacing that plastic eventually. That black stuff looks like blue-green algae and should wash off pretty well.
