Anyone have any tips for diy removal (other than a shovel and pick)? Want this gone but don’t want to hurt myself, lol.

Hire out a micro digger. Cut off the foliage then rummage about with the bucket to pull the root system. If I was me, that’s what I’d do.

Reciprocating saw with a greenwood blade on it will do like 90% of the work until you reach the roots…really good for cutting out roots too.

Pruning saw (the sort which doesn’t fold) right at the bottom. Pick axe or even a good quality fork and a mini mattock to remove the stumps and roots.

You’ll need a hedge fund for that.

A mini digger would be the easiest way.

Don’t cut it all the way down first though. Leave at least a metre of it above ground for leverage. It’ll make life easier.

Just a saw. After cut into leftover branches with a cross shape should kill it off. Simple.

Cut it down and ring a local tree surgeon with a stump grinder and wood chipper dealing with the waste of that will take you a good few car trips to a dump. Trying to dig out stumps by hand is a hellish job.

If you hire a digger and damage any services to your house you will foot the bill to repair. Unless you have a detector for services you are basically dogging blind.

Glad to see someone else is tired of giant box hedges

Leave it until October in case birds are nesting in it.

I put an ad for a ‘free hedge’ in Adverts last year and someone who needed a hedge came with a digger and removed it. Good luck!
