Basically title. If these don’t mean infestation, I can leave with less leaves on the tree to support biodiversity. But if these won’t become beautiful butterflies or something practical, we’re at the point where I can pick every single one easily to finish off. Would be much happier if they were friends. Anyone recognising them?

Sawfly larvae. they’ll clear leaves off smaller shrubs/trees pretty efficiently – had a short infestation last couple of years on alder trees, but amazingly the trees bounced back very well since then

Whatever they are, they are part of the native web of life; I’d pick off about half, and leave the rest to do their natural thing. Willows are pretty tough!
