Right there with you in trying to be balanced in thought. I do garden organically, but had it with the sawfly larve on my newly flushed out roses. I was ready to pull out big guns, then realized I had my herbs in that bed too, so finally used neem 😄 it worked! Later in the season the wasps.go after the sawfly.larve, so no longer a problem.
Welcome to my world. Boles the bane of my existence. They are so bad in the winter here in Anchorage Alaska. They will take out my fruit trees and kill so many plants in the winter eating all the roots.
Omg, I LOVE your excitement about seeing a cardinal and fireflies. We become so jaded when things are "typical to see" but watching your joy was like seeing life alongside the perspective of a child…..so pure and absolutely delightful
I Soooo enjoy your recap videos 😍, I say this every time but it's true! Can't wait to see how Peggy 's garden inspiration will transpire on your garden! She has a gorgeous property and I am so glad you made it's own video! You guys be safe, God be with you all 🙏🏻 Hugs and love 💖🤗 Blessings 💞
I live in the Midwest, 3.5 hours west of Chicago Zone 5. I have a smaller pond. I pull the pumps and put a livestock tank heater in the pond to keep a hole in the ice for aeration of the water. The pond is 2-3 feet deep so it won't freeze solid. The fish go dormant in the bottom of the pond.
Oh goodness!!! Voles are my mortal enemy!! I have been battling them for over 30 years, They will eat anything, I had the most beautiful hosta garden and they ate them all pulling them into the ground like a bad Bugs Bunny cartoon. I have to keep my hostas in pots now. Voles will eat around the base of small trees or shrubs killing them and love to go under the snow to do this. I trapped them one summer and after catching 20 I gave up, I think I was just making room for more. I have often wondered if you had them in your climate. I live in eastern NC and they are plentiful here, especially f you live in a heavily wooded area. Be Viligant!!!
You got a little taste of animal pressure with the rabbit. So you know what some of us are dealing with. We're dealing with constant deer traffic and groundhogs and voles and rabbits in our garden. It's a nightmare. Nothing seems to work.
Voles?!? You need more stray cats. Or you are feeding yours too well. You can’t have too many cats as far as I am concerned. I had voles years ago when I first moved here but then I started attracting stray cats. No voles, no moles, no bunnies by the house, no mice. I will feed them forever.
If I could make a suggestion to jenniferburns question at 32:49 (which was very good, by the way) about the dedicated videos for pest prevention/treatment, I'd like to ask if it is possible to put your videos about those things under a pest prevention/treatment category where it says, "For You", "Videos", "Popular Videos"? I know you've done quite a few of those over the years, and if it isn't too hard for you to know which videos fit in that space, maybe that would be an option for people.
Through the dog days when it’s tough to get out and create fresh content in the heat, it would be nice to revive the before and after garden submissions! That’s how I found your channel initially. I so enjoy watching your garden but with yours being a more commercial YouTube garden, sometimes it’s a little more realistic and inspiring change of pace to see personal gardens.
This is the first year that I have a spieder mite problem and it is extensive. And you said, I think in your last video, that they prefer hot dry weather. Funny thing is that in my region we had the most rain in years this year- we have at least two long and good rains (4-5 hours or the whole night/ day) each week often more.
I have so many pests this year (thrips, aphids; ants keeping the aphids healthy, and spider mites).I also have lots of pollinators as well, so I want to keep them as safe as I can. Do you find that diatomaceous earth works well for these pests? I think I've already lost 2 elderberries, I'm hoping to save my other 3. Help!
@maryellenmosher4281 I'm also in Ontario (between Oshawa & Cobourg) & have some experience with overwintering plants in containers. Assuming you have a plant that is hardy enough to survive the cold & wind in the depth of winter, the main danger actually comes in the late winter/early spring with the freeze/thaw cycle. Those conditions will rot your plant's roots pretty quickly. I've had the best success overwintering bulbs and perennial containers in an unheated garage or shed and only taking them out when the temps are consistently above freezing. With trees and shrubs in larger containers, I gather them all outside together pot to pot and surround them with bags of mulch for extra insulation.
You are getting more critters due to the fires. All of the wild life is trying to escape and find a safe home. You may also see more deer, rabbits, birds, etc. All of your new trees will provide a safe place for the birds, squirrels and rabbits can make a home under the pines, etc. We have alot of rabbits who like to make their homes behind our rose bushes! Haven't done any damage to the rest of our flower gardens at all. Very lucky I guess!
I am so glad that you all are really not in the path of these fires. We have friends that live outside of Burns in a canyon and they have a fire just. a few miles away from them. We are praying for all affected by these horrific fires. Our friends have a little ranch and we are praying so hard that they don't have to evacuate and get their animals out. God bless you all.

Here, in Colorado, I'm being overrun by grasshoppers and voles! I give up. Fingers crossed for next year!

Peggy’s garden was awesome…favorite part was she saved the meadow Rue even though her husband wasn’t a fan! Go Peggy!

Laura and Aaron,
Another pleasant recap episode.
Thank you.
florida is terribly hot
Look at you!!! You are wearing a white shirt and it looks great.

It looks like Giardano's. Don't like their crust. If you ever come back look for Lou Malnattis It is the best.

Drone fun: where's Aaron? LOL. BUT I'd definitely play! 😃

Is Peggy’s garden irrigated or is it even necessary there?

What would you do if you had bindweed in your raspberry beds? I’m struggling with it. 😅
Always love your QA with you and Aaron thank you so much 😊❤ God's blessings ❤
I agree with both of you with the strategy on spraying plants.
Thank you Thank you for 14:05 😂

Lou Malnatti’s pizza is amazing. Crispy almost pastry like crust and fresh sauce.
Tell us about your interesting looking coaster.
You should design a "Laura friendly dress"
For permanent tags use copper and “emboss” the information with a ball point pen – no ink to wear off 😊
I noted the box when you were touring it was Lou Malnati’s pizza. TBH Giardiano’s is top tier for deep dish. 😊

I’m curious about your soil. Do you have worms? If not, have you ever considered adding them.
