  1. At least your plants aren’t being eaten alive by caterpillars. I have more than I want of cabbage loopers and othercaterpillars, spider mites and thrips. Your plants look wonderful!

  2. First year of growing squash, is it normal for the leaves to wilt daily in the heat? If not do you have any suggestions on how to prevent it? TIA

  3. It's always interesting/overwhelming returning from vacation. Most of the cabbage split, but was able to start a half gallon of kraut. The green beans gave a great second picking. The bird-house gourd "exploded" and we have vines in the tomatoes, up to the top of the corn and sunflowers. Blackberries waited until we got home and from our small patch we had pie, jam, and will start cordial this week. The bind weed has been terrible this year, can't seem to get much control. Thankfully tomatoes are slow this year so keeping up with the canning, freezing, dehydrating has not been too hard. Had our first apricot harvest this year. Good year so far. We've been more purposeful with organic soil amendments and the rain pattern has been very good. Planted lots more companion plants and flowers to bring in pollinators. I'm a slow learner but I'm grateful for a good year so far. Had a few fat hornworms on one bag of potato plants. They were relocated quickly and we enjoyed some early Yukon gold potatoes. Caught them before they moved on to other potatoes or found the tomato bed. Love your posts. I learn so much. Blessings!

  4. I am trying Amish paste for the first time this year. So far, the fruit looks like yours, but my plants are much "vinier", so much I am going to use tomato hooks to support those that have gotten so big.

  5. Organza. Oh, god, bindweed! I REALLY hate to say it, but the only thing that has ever worked for me is some carefully applied herbicide. You don't ned to apply it to the whole plant, just paint a few leaves 2 or 3 times. It was the only way I could get the whole root killed. Any tiny bit of root will just grow more.

  6. Good morning, I live in a small unit and bought some fresh dates to eat, I thought wouldn't it be interesting to grow them, I now have 6 date palms and I'm not sure what to do with them? Any advice would be appreciated. ❤

  7. You do not use pesticide because?

By not using pesticide it allows, for pests to approach plants, and maybe animals as well. The smell of the food you are growing not only goes inside of your nose. Animals, and different bugs can sense the delicious aroma of what you have chosen to grow.

Regarding myself the next time I decide to grow when I put my plants outside, or try to plant outside is when I am going to deal with the smell. There are pros, and cons, for using, and not using pesticide, and I assume you already know what they are.

  8. That vine is bad stuff friend. I have had it for many years and the only thing that works for me is just to add it to my list of things to hand pull. 🥴☹️ But I’ve been able to keep it at bay with vigilance. 🙏🏻🍀

  9. Thanks for the info on asparagus. I planted 24 bare roots in the early spring and there are so many fronds. I was wondering how long to leave them alone…you’ve answered my question!!

  10. The cottage garden looks like a cottage garden! Yeah, it needs attention but I like it! Blessings to the entire family Brian! <3<3<3

  11. Your show always takes the anxiety out of me and my own garden. You are so nonchalant, “tomorrow’s job”. I love it. I need to get my shade cloth up for my peppers, good reminder. I had a chipmunk in the garden yesterday, cruisin’, almost running in to me. I have my tulle (and traps) ready if one even looks at my tomatoes. I went out to check the green beans this afternoon, hoping to get a few for supper. First picking and I filled two bowls. Next on my list is to save out some for supper, blanch and freeze the rest. Great show. Always calms my anxiety and keeps me positive. Thank you.

  12. Nice seeing you again. Would you do a seed buying video? Who you get your seeds from and when it’s best to buy seeds for the new season. Thanks for all you do.

  13. I started watching when you were planning on moving near me. My favorite channels have a yard where they start from nothing. Gardener Scott, Epic Gardening, and Next Level. Not sure why it is hard for me to watch people with long established yards.

  14. Bindweed! So that's what it's called! My neighbor and I were calling it a morning glory. It's really annoying how persistent it is and it chokes out my flowers

  15. Thank You so much!! I am new to gardening and I barely made my seed purchases on time. So much was taken but I did get lucky. And where do you purchase all your seeds? Love and regards to you and your beautiful family.

  16. Brian, interesting about your Habanada peppers. I have 1 plant going and it is COVERED in peppers. They have a nice flavor. I hope you get some. Zone 8a.

  17. I am having the same issues with Baby Grasshoppers and the same vine/weed this year! I live by Fresno. My Jalapeño peppers are not doing much either. Some need to understand certain Plants need the Heat/ Sun to Thrive. I find when mine get lot's of both they give me huge amounts of Peppers. Not so much this year! Thanks for the Video's and info.. I missed seeing them.. But we all need time off!

  18. I have Habanada peppers for the first year. My peppers are full of fruit! Hopefully I like them because I have 9 plants.

  19. I grow the best crop of bind weed in North Dakota. 😠 I hate the stuff , however, I have found that 30-45% industrial strength vinegar will kill it after a couple applications. Careful with the vinegar because the slightest drift will burn anything close.

  20. Hi Brian – I didn’t catch what kind of apple you said that what in your cottage garden – the one that you prune to be finger length for fruiting spurs? I would love to have one!

  21. I bought a fig tree from the store, it is in a flower pot and for a while it looked good but now the leaves are brown-spotted. I have no clue what to do.

  22. I think the material is organza that you are thinking of, I use tulle a lot, am going to make bags out of some of it this winter, but otherwise I just drape tulle over whichever bed seems to need a bit of protection from whatever insects are busy.

  23. Another great video. A word about the grasshoppers, well 2 words: don’t wait! I had a few “cute little” grasshoppers and now I have many adult grasshoppers who are devastating my raspberries. Now I’ve become an aggressive ‘killer’ of grasshoppers of any size. Don’t let them get out of hand.

  24. I have a nadapena and its doing well. This is my 2nd time with it and I too love the taste but not the heat. I hadnt heard about the habinada so Ill be looking for those seeds for next year. Missed your videos but glad you were able to get away with the fam and enjoy a vacay!!

  25. I'm so glad your habanadas are finally doing well for you. It also took me several years to get any fruit. I think you'll like them. I made some really yummy hot sauce using mostly habanadas with a little bit of tabasco peppers. I tried the tulle on my tomatoes for rats when I was in CA but it was not effective. However, I am going to try using the organza bags to keep the stink bugs from ruining my tomatoes here in NC. Your garden is looking great.

  26. I'm having very good luck with Roulette Heatless Habanero from Hoss Seeds.(Zone 8 A/B).
