San Diego our tomatoes are really starting to put on a lot of growth and I’m very happy to see it which means that we also have to start doing our pruning and maintenance of our tomatoes so what am I looking for at the early season in terms of pruning and maintaining these Tomatoes well the first and foremost is I want to make sure I prune any of these leaves that are capable of touching the ground when it touches the ground a couple things could happen first of all they could get disease directly from the soil contact on the leaf second you’ll generally find that those leaves get munched up by little pests like really poish or ear wigs that live on the floor come up bite your Leaf open a wound and then now disease could also enter into your tomato plant so the main thing I’m looking for like I said is any leaf that touches the ground I will be pruning now the cool thing is is that you don’t have to prune all the way at the base of the plant you could just prune the tip of the leaflet so the whole Leaf is maybe this big I just prune the end where it is actually rubbing up against the floor
