I have grasshoppers so bad this year! Everything I'm using doesn't seem to be working. Suggestions needed. I've used Captain jacks dead bug and 8 from bonide.
Im zone 8b, georgia. Ive always put my Persian Shield in full shade, moist but not wet soil, north side of house. They got huge and vibrant. I can't see them liking any sun in our hot climate. Liking seeing all the combinations; fun project. I forsee the children having similar competitions in the future. Love your channel!
You should see my garden. Last Year I was so impressed with our deck PW annuals that this year I decided to buy a few of each available PW annuals in my area. To see how they would do. I didnt have any issue with last years annuals but wanted to see which work and didnt. So my garden doesnt look cohesive. My OCD is making me crazy. But want to see which will work so when I order from local garden center next year I will know which works in what areas and what doesnt. You gave me this ideo with your test deck boxes you had last year. Next year I will create a new bed that is for testing. Thanks for all the great Ideas Laura and Aaron.
I love Guara, but I'm voting number 7 again. Still my fav.
I think it's a tie
5&7
Love seeing the containers today! My sis and I were just talking about them! It's going to be very hard to choose a favorite……
I like all of them
Ditto on those comments.
Aaron’s pots are more cohesive. As they grew bigger they’ll blend together even more harmoniously. 👍 for Aaron. He should do more pots.
#4 and #7 got my vote!
@5:08 there is a blue volunteer plant by the bottom white rail in the dirtlands, what is that?
Hmm very interesting on the Persian Shield. I grew Persian Shield in West Chester, OH when I was little and it was humongous and glorious (although quite the water hog) in the afternoon sun. I wonder if they require more humidity to be happy. I now live in the high desert like you (different state), so good to know Persian Shield would likely be on the struggle bus here.
Although, I do wonder if it just needs more water. Like I said, it was a total water hog growing up. 🤔
Thank you for sharing!!! ❤ I love the friendly competition y’all have.
What do you think is causing the color variations in the Bubblegum??
So true, Aaron about the difference- I got the same coleus and it was trashed by earwigs. I was so bummed. Trying to control the earwigs turned into a full time job. It has been insane. I have had ok luck with the supertunia and benas but only because of neem oil, insecticidal soap, the slug bait, homemade dawn/water soap spray and beer cups using small cans. I find their homes and dance on them. There are too many even for birds! I bought a lot of annuals you two showed us in the plantings and the bugs were brutal! Good lesson for me. I’ve never purchased as many annuals as I did this year because I was inspired by this channel. Laura models the ‘how’ that gave me the confidence. I’m in 6b/Indianapolis with the humid/hot midwestern weather. I added lady bugs for aphids, I have flowers for dragon flies that eat mosquitoes and had a big gorgeous brown one stop by to hide her eggs! Thanks for all you do to share with us. I appreciate all you’ve taught me! Cant wait to get a kneeling pad!😊
It's so interesting the difference of performance of the Persian Shields. We live in zone 7 but we're very wet, either with rain or humidity. Makes me wonder if they like our wet climates. We also put them in mostly shade and they flourish but never seem to have a issue with the wind
Container #4 is my favorite… Just beautiful! Thank you both ! Have a great week!
I think the last one is going to bounce back and be stunning.
My vote thus far is Laura's pot #4. The purples and silver grey! My 2nd is Aaron's pot #6. Lovely contrast!
The all pink one by Laura!
My Persian Shield is in my shade garden here in Australia. In a big blue ceramic pot with a Chinese Lantern. It loves its life here! I cut it back to the perimeter of the pot every winter & it flushes fresh in spring. It’s a magnificent show plant in the centre of the garden. Full sun on the tag is misleading to incorrect.
Love all the planters ( except the one with only one pink plant and the last one ) anyway , WAY TO GO AARON ! Giving Laura true competition !!! Lol ! Tfs
I just love this competition ! I love them all! In ideal growing conditions such as weather and being pest free would all look amazing! I have noticed this year more so then other years the one side of the pot is less filling. I have seen it before but this year its like on steriods the same conditions but growth is so far behind. I am wondering if it is the weather effecting it also. two of my favs are from each of you ! I think next year have a limit per pot. You each can only use say 6 plants per pot??
Another comment , I bet that green pasture will be here way sooner than you or anyone else thinks ( knowing how you both like things to look and with all the energy you both have ! 😅 )
I like how you lift eachother up when something doesn't look so good ❤❤❤
Great video!
Thanks!
Question,
Was the Persian Sheid PW?
I struggle with mine too but they are not Proven Winner varieties.
It was really helpful to see how all the different types of plants are performing. So many pretty combinations. I loved the moment with Aaron's "sensory plant." 😊
All the containers look fantastic. You both did amazing. Thank you for sharing the update with us all.
all of the containers look lovely. Was wondering if you used potting soil in the containers would you still need to use the chelated iron?
I'm in SE Wisconsin and I have also struggled with Perian Shield. This year is my 3rd year trying it. I've had it in ground and pots. This year I have it in about 4 hours of morning sun and it looks the best is has for me. Hoping it continues to grow
I’ve had success with Persian shield in containers in part sun, zone 8a Georgia. They were massive by the end of the season, similar performance to coleus .

#3 Is my favorite…but they are all pretty
