Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Your breathtaking road trip footage gave me goosebumps and your heartfelt relationship w your step-daughter is inspiring. This was exact the video I needed to see and really lifted my heart. So happy your journey was filled with blessings and incredible memories, thank you for sharing 💓🙏💓
Zion and Bryce Canyon are beautiful, and in the winter with snow are spectacular! If you are going through New Mexico, it will take your breath away. ❤
😂😂😂❤❤❤
I’ve been to the south rim of the grand canyon. It was so big all I could say is, “yep! This is the Grand Canyon “. It was too be for me to comprehend until I canoed down on the green river that connects to it. That was a trip I will never forget.
America 🇺🇸 is beautiful and needs to be treasured. These are the moments in life that will be remembered, Jess.
We live in a beautiful country. Thanks for sharing your trip!
What beautiful memories. I learned to read a regular map and used to print off a map from Mapquest later on.
I lived in Vegas for 2 years. One time, we went camping, and my ex and oldest son slept outside the tent. At one point, here they come into the tent. It started snowing, which was a shocker. We loved going to Utah and Hoover Dam.
What a beautiful trip and experience for the two of you. So happy you made an adventure out of it. ❤
“I love those moments where life just completely overwhelms you with the ‘good’ emotions…we call emotions good or bad and the truth is…you feel or you don’t. And I understand why so many people choose not to feel because sometimes the pain of life makes you feel like you’re gonna die. But when you’re brave enough to go through that without getting numb, you get to experience moments like this…” Jessica Sowards, RR Farm💚💚💚 That quote is for sure going in my planner/journal.
That is how I felt when we moved from Maine to South Dakota! I thought I was on a different planet especially going to the Badlands! Enjoy your trip Ladies and be Safe ❤
Thank you so very much for taking us along and sharing everything that you shared with us and inspiring us to stop and smell the roses 🌹.
All the giggles! What a beautiful relationship!!! Thank you so much for sharing that with us!! 💜🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I don't know if you'll find my comment Jess, but we took a road trip to Arizona to see family over the first week of April and on the way back from Tucson(go see the Sonoran desert sometime, you'll cry there too like I did.) We stopped for the night in Flagstaff and then went to the Grand Canyon(East entrance South rim because the North rim was closed still).
I stood there and fought back tears. I never thought I would see it in my life. Bless my husband for encouraging the travel and pushing me out of being an absolute homebody garden hermit. I stood there looking out over the canyon and felt so small.
After we left we headed up to Zion and came in the East entrance there. We basically did what you did in reverse lol. It was absolutely amazing. I will never forget it. I'm so glad you got to see it too.
Making wonderful memories that you will never forget. I think it is so great that you two are so close and are having such a great time together. The last trip my mom and I took together was to Phoenix, Sedona then on to the Grand Canyon. When I saw it I was in such awe. I looked at my mom and said how can anyone say that God doesn’t exist. Just seeing it and the Painted Desert you know he is our creator. Be safe and have a great rest of your trip.
I'm not sure what it says about me…but when I first saw the Grand Canyon my first thought was "I wonder how many people fall over and die here". In my defense, the railings were barely hanging on where we were.
God Bless our Beloved America and every soul and living thing within it. Love ya, Patty
That was spectacular. Thank you for sharing your trip. They was awesome!
I made it through the tunnel holding my breath! Wooo! Great video. Thanks for sharing with us.
That was pretty amazing! If you haven't already been, Cades Cove National Park is pretty cool and fairly close on the TN/NC border.
I could cry seeing that you were in NW Arkansas! I live in the area. My heart felt like it was swelling seeing my beautiful home on this video. I'm so glad you had such a wonderful trip with your daughter.
The grand canyon! The one place on my list
WOW just WOW !!!
I know exactly what you’re saying!! Isn’t our Creator amazing…..all HE did for us!!
Next time, come visit us in the PNW! I get to see Mount Rainier every time I head out of my neighborhood. wish I could figure out how to insert a picture. I whisper "wow" every day! The country (the world) is beautiful.
My sister lives in Phoenix AZ and when she flies home to Michigan the first thing she says when getting off the plane is it’s so Green
Thanks for taking us all on your adventure 😊
Thank You for taking use along with you! I have not seen many states. So I'm definitely enjoying it with you. Please stay safe ❤
I held my breath! :). Love a challenge. Grand Canyon…I got to fly under the rim when I was 13, my family never had money and my dad played a slot machine at the state line from Ca and won some money. It was either going to be a burro trip to the bottom spend the night and back or the flight and the flight won. I got to sit in the co-pilot seat. Epic, insanely memorable. Also my first ever plane ride. For my experiences, hard to top that.
🌸🌸
I understand why you never leave your home and you now know why I never leave mine. ❤
Laying on the sidewalk looking up at the branches of the General Sherman tree made me feel the way you felt at Zion and the Grand Canyon. I hope you get to see it one day if you never have it's the same but different because it isn't just land, it's a living thing. It was there before you and will be there after you, you are just a blip in the breath that it takes and you are literally breathing in the oxygen that it created. And that's your breath, just for you. Awe inspiring…
Dearest Jess,
I’m so in awe of how appreciative you are of God’s magnificent creation.
Have you seen Yosemite or the California Redwoods? Bring your tissues 😊❤️
Honey – yes. My first time in those mountains was last year and there is just no comparing pictures to being in the shadows of those giants that were raised out of the crust of the earth by our creator. ❤
This is one of my favorite videos you have done!
I loved watching this. What a joy to see this adventure
Maliah is so beautiful! ❤ She looks a lot like Jeremiah. I’m glad you had a wonderful trip.
Went on a cross country road trip with my husband 7 years ago, there were a number of times I just cried at the amazing beauty. Something everyone should do if possible.
You were within 40 miles of me?! 😢😮 Man!
Mapquest printing 👏😂
Did you stop and see the Petrified Forest?
The adventures of Thelma and Louise. 😊
I was soo excited to see this map and first thing I thought is I NEED A LINK TO THAT MAP PLZZZZZ
