I would cut back all the long growth (below the flowering growth. The stubs left over should dry up and fall of / be able to easily pull off once very fully dried.
Smaller pot and grittier mix will do it well at that point too, as you said.
Watering depends on where you are, this plant doesn’t get nearly enough light though as it stands, which is why those arms are so long and lanky. Optimally they would be shorter, stouter, and stand on their own.
