It looks suspiciously like a Jalepeño. Is it? Will it turn red – I presume it will…?

    I looked at a bunch of “Sriracha ” sauces in the grocery store yesterday and they were all made from Jalepeños.

    Looks like mine. I grow siracha and jalapeno, they do look very similar but side by side you can see the difference.

    Sriracha originally was made with Underwood Family Farms ripe jalapeños from southern and central California. Supposedly it was a particular strain of jalapeño grown and fermented in a particular way that gives the flavor.

    There’s a bunch of articles about how the supply of said jalapeños has changed recently due to the company getting into contract wars with the farms, but yeah they’re jalapeños in the sauce. Sriracha itself has changed color noticeably in recent years following the shortages.

    Some weird labeling there but it’s technically the truth.
