Advice for mismatch rings?

  1. Just overlap them, they usually never fit 1:1.

Consensus is that overlapping rings is beneficial but hardly essential so don’t stress too much over it.

My advice is to not worry about the overlap of rings. Especially after securing the scion with whatever you are using. I use ace bandage stretched over and sometimes the scion slightly moves cause I stretch it on pretty good. There is vascular tissue running all over the cacti so the chance of not lining any vascular tissue up is slim. IMO the more important things are a clean knife, healthy hydrated rootstock and scion, grafting onto newer growth on the rootstock, and good air flow when graft is healing.

One thought would be to line up the center point of the skinny cactus with the vascular ring of the big one.

Bingo. I think that’s the plan- I guess I just wasn’t sure if I should choose a larger diameter Scion

Don’t worry. Just get it on flush
