Hey guys! Any advice would be appreciated!
We bought this house a few years back and it has a greenhouse. Because of the trees planted around the greenhouse it receives very dappled sun through out the day. The greenhouse is also not heated and does not have electricity at the moment. I planted a variety of veggie and flower seeds to hopefully plant when the temp gets warmer (zone 8b- coastal NC). The temperatures will drop to about 50° in the greenhouse at night from what I’ve seen so far, and then can rise to about 90° in here during the day. I’m really worried about these seeds not being warm enough, and also not having enough light (two things I know they need!). So I have a few thoughts but I’d love your guys advice on options! My thoughts were to get a small portable greenhouse (the kind that is essentially just a shelf with a plastic zipper) that I can place out in a more full sun area. Or I could bring in a radiator space heater into my current greenhouse that will fix the heating problem but may not fix the light problem.
I really want these seeds to work out!

Have you thought about maybe adding in heat mats and covering the trays? I wonder if that would be enough to get things going, even if there’s not full sun. 🙂

Put them back in your house where the temps are even until you get germination. Mine don’t go in my greenhouse until the whole tray is up. Takes way too long if they get hot then cold then hot.

I will pass on just a few of the things my husband would say to me… Honey it’s been 7 minutes. a watched pot never boils. You’re giving them stage fright. Oh yes he is just a barrel of laughs in the garden. 😁

seeds do not need light to germinate in most cases. they are under soil = no light needed until they sprout leaves.

The low temp are not the issue. i start in an un heated space and they start no matter how cold if its above freezing. 90 is getting hot though

You might be putting the seeds too deep, I would crack one open and see if anything has started to sprout, I would also cover the trays to keep the heat and humidity locked in. Ive had the best success with those tiny little dirt pucks that you let soak in water for a day then plant the seed., theres also seed growing solution you can buy and add to the water the pucks are soaking in, great for cloning when you get to that step. anyways good luck!

that open slat bench wont help them stay warm put something down. also can you sprout them in your house and and bring them out after they pop
