This is a gift I received from u/neberious ! First pic is after I received it on September 6 and the second pic is today Jan 14 th !

This is a sanpedro mutant seedling that was named “battle ship” because it was originally released by neberious during a super fun and original game of battleship on the cactus trading sub !!

This is a “trichocereus” rootstock and scion , it is grafted in a way I think is very “pretty” and visually appealing . No chamfer , just one simple clean cut removing the tip of an actively growing cactus . The size of the graft and the size of the rootstock are matched perfectly in my opinion, and after the scion grows larger I plant to up graft it the exact same way .

1 simple way I have found this no chamfer method to be successful is to use a well rooted rootstock . Dehydrated cactus can cup and change shapes after being cut , to avoid this I soak my rootstock BEFORE cutting. I soak my already well hydrated rootstock in a saucer of fertilizer water for 5 hours before I make my cut . I find this makes for a juicy cactus that holds the graft well and doesn’t “cup” or change shape .

This graft receives cactus fertilizer water on a regular basis and is growing outside in partial shade . I use aloe vera in my water to adjust the ph and to help my cactus retain moisture .

Cheers cactus friends , I hope all your grafts from 2023 are doing great here in 2024!!

Damn man! That thing blew up (I knew it would!)

On the discussion side, what are your thoughts on well hydrated scions? I kinda feel that is important also, but maybe less so. It seems like there is a balance between stock and scion of evening out water amount, a juicy stalk will plump a scion up early while a dehydrsted one kinda sucks moisture out of the scion.

Also kinda surprised you haven’t grafted that things testicle
