There are many ways to keep animals out of your garden. These are a few of the ways that I have tried over the years and that work for me.
1- Plant only things that animals don’t like to eat in unprotected spaces: larkspur, daffodils, feverfew, irises, roses, peonies, foxgloves, bee balm, hydrangeas, and yarrow are a few examples.
2- Use an animal deterrence alarm to protect your other plants.
These work very well. Last year I used these to protect my sunflowers and it was the first year in 7 years that the deer and woodchucks didn’t eat them on me.
3. Install a fence.
This option isn’t necessary but it definitely can help. Our fence is about 4 feet high. Deer could jump it if they wanted to, but my hope is that it is enough a deterrence that they choose not to.
