If it smells like rotten peanut butter when you crush the leaves, then it’s Ailanthus, which is what you have.

The first picture is a different plant from the others. It is NOT TOH, but the others are!

Serrated leaves = Sumac. Its fine. The smooth leaves with the bump at the base = Tree of Heaven

Dead giveaway for Tree of Hell is the edges of the leaves have two little lumpy thumbs right near the base of the leaf on either side.

Guarantee there is a big one not far away that’s probably a full sized tree.

Oh yeah you can definitely tell from leaf shape first one is american sumac and the others is Asian sumac or the dreaded TOH with that stupid tooth at the base of the leaf. I get so irrationally angry when I see them. I have a GIANT one in my back yard I snarl at whenever I pull into the driveway. Have gotten rid of 4 suckers so far, one keeps coming back with a vengeance and I fear it will take the house one day. Neighbors said before we moved in the flippers had to cut down a forest in the backyard and one of the trees even fell and hit the neighbors house. I didn’t think twice about it at the time but I am sure the backyard was RIDDLED with TOHs and now is cursed.

Now is the time to treat them! Don’t cut them down entirely! Buy some Triclopyre and cut 4 or so slits on the trunk. Then apply triclopyre and let it absorb it through the winter. I wrap plastic wrap around it where I place it. This spreads the herbicide through the root system and kills it for good! Otherwise you are going to be fighting this thing for years at the rate it has grown.
