American Persimmon. They’ll be orange when they’re ripe

Persimmon. The ones you picked are extremely unripe. You should leave them on the tree until their orange/red color starts to come in. They’re basically unpalatable until their damn near over ripened.
Excellent for jams, jellies and baking desserts, like cookies and such.

Persimmons! Don’t eat them green! Wait until they’re a nice orange color and they’re very soft. So soft you could eat em with a spoon. They have a soft jelly like texture and are one of my favorites!

Persimmon…. Let the fruit ripen before you taste. If it’s sweet… It’s delicious. If it’s astringent…. You’ll think you took a bite of green apple flavored sawdust. My friends inducting me into the American South got a laugh at my Yankee butt when my mouth lost all saliva in a fraction of a second. The taste was good but the lack of moisture in my mouth was something I never expected. I learned later on that they would collect the fruits after a frost and they would be just right for consumption.

Persimmons is absolutely correct. They make AMAZING bread (think banana bread style). Also delicious peeled, reduced and poured over vanilla ice cream. But as everyone has pointed out, you gotta wait until they’re a solid orange color and feel soft. Amazing on their own also. Some people don’t like the texture, and I don’t really have a good comparison for texture or flavor. On the west coast of the US, they ripen in mid-late fall.
