So cool
Maybe sifting would be worth a try in your experiments. Loved this, we are going to check into the Kitchen Aid attachment for milling.
Literally the coolest thing I've ever seen. Oh my gosh. I'm not able to grow mu own wheat, maybe one day. I just don't have the space but I am going to buy wheat berries so I can make my own flower!! So cool, oh my gosh it's so cool!! Thanks for showing the process, it's just so cool. I'm speechless I have no other words.โคโค
Paul and Bethany are like having magic elves in your garden. They come behind you can clean and tidy, or weed, mulch, and water, etc. I know Iโd love them in my garden. What a blessing they are. Great video.
Amazing "how it's made" video!! This was fun and informative. โคโคโค
What a fun project โฅ๏ธ
๐พThe tool you were using at 6:04 is called a sickle. I wonder whether you would have been better off using a scythe instead. That's what the farmers use because it covers greater area.
I also wonder if uniformly laying the cut grain on the tarp would have been more beneficial & less time consuming.
Enjoyed taking a peak at Benjamin laying down by the wagon at 8:07 with his legs crossed while you so arduously worked with the wheat. Precious!! At 8:30, I can tell he was doing his imaginary stories.
Paul and Bethany are a blessing to have. They work great as a team at 29:23. Love how attention to detail Paul was exhibiting at 30:18 after clearing out the area and preparing it for the next project.
Great project!! ๐พ
I be really enjoyed this video. Now Iโm wondering if my students and I can plant wheat in our school garden and harvest when they come back to school?
What a FUN process! Thank you for sharing and for going through that hard work. Maybe sifting the flour would make the biscuits less dense? Just a thought ๐
It is really quite an operation your parents have going on down there at Andrews…
What a great video! Thanks for taking us along. Enjoy those biscuits!
I throughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for bring us along ๐.
The garden center is the gift that just keeps on giving, I had no idea that they had mills there. They have everything!
Awesome Laura.. good skills to know in case of emergency. Thank you for doing this project..#LifeSkilz
Althoughhh not gonna lie as i was watching i said ."girl throw that in a contractors bag and run over it a few times with a tractor or lawn roller" lol lol
One more: whole wheat flour from your garden is different than whole wheat flour from the mill – it's more dense, so when you use it, you'll need to add more baking powder/soda or yeast…
Super project! I think Epic Gardening- Kevin did something similar last year. You are so inspiring Laura…got me wanting to grow me some wheat too!! ๐๐๐งโ๐พ๐งโ๐พ
We have a mill grander make own flour its just the best.
The cutting tool is a Japanese Rice saw. They are the best. It makes dead heading or fall clean up so easy.
Your bread would be good for toast. Yummy
Good morning Laura and family
WOW! homemade biscuits from your own garden it was amazing to watch you do all of this. It brought back memories of when I was Child, I had to of been 9 or 10 we would go on vacation to Mosquero, New Mexico, my aunts uncles and cousins were all about the farm the gardens they had cows horses pigs lamb sheep it was so fun to go there on vacation I can remember my aunts, and my mom helping do this but I never knew what was going on until I seen your video it just brought back so many memories thank you Laura for refreshing my mind. I got a little teared up. Thank you so much for this video it was great to see you do all this from the beginning planting harvesting baking and you were having fun doing all this thank you again I would like to know what Aaron had to say. Have a wonderful rest of the day ๐๐๐ฅ. PS. Would love to see a video Monica making her ๐ฅ
Fascinating! ๐พ
Hey Laura, tool is called SICKEL ๐
You are the hardest working person I know! It's inspiring, but at 64, I don't think I could ever keep up. I will say those Augers help!!!! Of course, I got one and want the bigger one!
We store our flour in similar plastic tubs . We were informed by a friends to purchase silvery liner bags which prevent the plastic tub out gassing toxins into the valued contents. Whether it be flour or rice or dog food .
I love this video! Bread must have been very Special, a Commodity in the Past considering how much work is in it to make it edible. I helped a Farmer and his Wife harvest their Wheat once when I was a kid and I said it was the longest and hardest job I ever did! Lol๐ข
What a fun project and experience. I enjoyed watching. Did your kids watch and learn you grinding the wheat berries?
I can't wait to see the results after you cook with it.
I buy flour from a small, local mill here in MN. They use Turkey Red Heritage Wheat Berries so there is no need to bleach it to get an all purpose white flour. I use it for pretty much everything including bread. They also make a bread flour from a combination of Turkey Red and Sonora White. As an added bonus, a number of people who can't process modern hybrid wheats, find the Turkey Red digestible. That might be a good variety for you to grow.
What a lot of hard work. You are just amazing!!
Kind of off topic but did you guys get a new seating section for in front of your greenhouse? Or is that from another area of the garden?
This was fascinating! What a very cool process. The end when Paul and Bethany cleaned up was so satisfying. ๐๐ป
