It looks like a Texas Brown Snake, non-venomous and a beautiful little creature. I have no idea where you live, though, and I can’t be sure. Do google for the species and see if your snake fits the description.

What part of the world you live in would be helpful.

In the military, any time we went to a new base or area we got a brief on local animals and how to identify what snakes and spiders are poisonous. I was always thought this brief was pointless; it’s a snake/spider, assume it is poisonous and leave it alone. In fact, just leave all wildlife alone and enjoy the view at a safe distance.

Looks like a Dekay’s brown snake. Good ones to have around. They eat slugs and other garden pests.

What is it: handsome! Good looking little guy.

Doesn’t appear to be a venomous variety, the head is the wrong shape. Looks like a little Florida brownsnake (don’t let the name fool you, they’re found all over North America east of the Rockies) and is perfectly harmless unless you’re a slug, in which case this might be the last thing you ever see.

If you’re somewhere besides North America, I have no other ideas.

Slug and spider exterminator. You should pay him.

Adorable!! Good to give them space and allow them to eat mice or other pests you don’t have to mess with

Local university or county extension service is always a great resource for identifications wherever you are
