Another great video Ivan, I am right at the beginning of my gardening journey, I have about 10 pots of potatoes doing well, I just cannot get carrots to germinate, on my fourth attempt. Hopefully can get some autumn/winter crops going and look toward next year. Thanks for all the advice.
Got my pots undercover, still windy in my area, and I don’t think the coming week is any easier, thanks for sharing Ivan x
Crushed egg shells stopped the blossom end rot on my tomatoes a few years back.
Thanks for the update Ivan, pleased you didn't get any wind damage. Fingers crossed for the tomatoes. Thanks for sharing.
One of my tomatoes went curly, I couldn't figure it out, one tom okay one not, I've give it a feed of cal-mag maybe another dose will do it. I've also given it some blood fish and bone, being a beginner I've no idea the leaves are curly, and the branches. Anyway I'll let you know. I am waiting on the toms growing. Lost a ton in the wind, along with the greenhouse, win some loose some. It is what it is.
A shame about the tomatoes they look beauties, I got end rot last year as I mentioned, I used Chempak multi action calcium fertilizer & thank goodness it worked before any more damage was done, this year is my first year growing vegetables properly, cabbage, broccoli, carotts, onions, spuds, turnips, beetroot, beans, cauliflower, tomatoes, & strawberries, it was a lot at first, time consuming & you really have to look after your veggie family lol, I'm thoroughly enjoying it & I've thrown myself into it, I lost my dad in December & my brother sixteen months before that & this is keeping me sane lol, wished I would have done it years ago but just didn't have the time like I do now. I really appreciate your channel Ivan, your straight John bull & tells it as it is, & you explain things so we understand it, any questions & nothing is too much trouble, thanks again…
I'm away for three days this week so I managed to get some of the watering globes off Ebay, what a bargain……Cheers Ivan
Fab content as usual 👍
Your right we need to keep calm and carry on. I garden to relax and keep myself sane. Even GP's now are social prescribing and telling people to garden and get out in nature, just the act of nurturing something can take the focus off yourself. Your really providing a public service Ivan!
Hi Ivan. Viewer here from the Washington, DC area. Insufferable heat and humidity on my end.
Re: your unripe tomatoes, if they don’t ripen indoors, you might try making some green tomato chutney with those you feel forced to harvest. Make the best of a bad situation! I do this every year at the end of the growing season, picking everything that hasn’t ripened and chopping all the different varieties up together. There are lots of great recipes online.
I am enjoying your content and teaching style. Keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Kathy
Well thank you Ivan for your previous post about carrots I didn't germinate them as I did twice before with rainbow carrots they did nothing, but making a couple of channels in my pot I sowed some other carrots covered with cling film a week ago and they've started to come through. Funny ol' world with growing.
You've a great garden
Not sure if it will work, but I've seen several gardeners dissolve Tums Anti Acid tablets in water and use for a quick fix of calcium for end rot. I hope you get that worked out because those tomato clusters are beautiful.
hi Ivan i had a lot of blossom end rot last year this year touch wood no blossom end rot this year i installed drip irrigation turned the irrigation on 30mins every other day the drip emmiters are rated 1gall per hour great crop of tomatoes so far so good no sign of blossom end rot hope i don't speak to soon love your videos great ideas regards Henry
Once again Ivan a cracking video. I no it can be quite disheartening when tomato blite kicks in and other crops fail and you think is it all worth well I would say yes because there's nothing like potting a seed and watching it grow to maturity so I say to all never give up as the song goes, always look on the bright side of life. Tim😊
A lot of my tomato plants have got wind burn from the storm 😢
Your potato plants look great! I'm keeping my eye on the middle aisles of Lidl and Aldi for a dolly or small hand truck to move potato bags about with as well as other plants. I hope your tomatoes are okay, I may have to move mine in to ripen on a windowsill as well I am going to try leaving them as long as I can first.
Hiya, Ivan. I always watch and listen to your videos with the captions on. I love the way it cannot cope with your accent. I'm a northerner so I'm fine with your accent and dialect, but some of the automatic captions are hilarious. Thanks for the great fun and loads of helpful and hopeful tips. Cheers.
Thanks Ivan, for this great update, I've heard of Calmag but don't know where to get it from, where have you ordered yours from? Take care and all the best. Stevie
thanks for passing on your knowledge on the container garden followed you every step of the way just started this year & been getting small rewards. tomatoes seam to be taking ages to grow getting small green tomatoes no red ones like you hopefully end of the month we may see something can you please show how you pickle your shallots based in north Lincolnshire thanks
Thank you for another really good update Ivan. Keep up the good work, Paul
San Marzano are about £4.50 a tin and, I think, THE best paste tomato. Well worth buying CalMag (at least you will have it on hand for next year). HUGE thanks for your constane words of encourage and your peaceful calm delivery of information.
