I talk about growing what you actually eat as a way to manage pests and diseases, harvest some of my favorite crops, and ramble may way through my garden. A great cucumber growing strategy is to keep planting in succession.

  2. Yum. Everything looks great. But I am most excited when I take out the potatoes. Probably because of curiosity and surprise at the size of the potatoes.

  3. I keep hearing you talk about the rain. I've about forgot what that is. Its currently 100 degrees and drier than a bone here in southern Illinois. Had a total of 2.55 inches in the last 40 days. I'm having trouble keeping enough water to my garden. Anybody know how to do a rain dance?

  4. I just harvested all of my kale, a day or two before the white moth armageddon. It's great 🙂

  5. Great video, thank you! Have you ever fermented your veggies to enjoy over the winter?

  6. Thank you Gary. I've watched you several years. I love you humble approach to gardening. You have been a great encouragement. I live in Maryland too. Your perspective has been so helpful. I've planned many years, having most of what I need, including seeds. I'm building my confidence by watching your seed starting videos. This is my first time planting edible transplants with flowers on my patio. My neighbor was so excited to tell me how beautiful it is. I thank you and your team for the encouragement. Many blessings to you and yours.

  7. I just harvested Oriental Yard Long, Rattlesnake beans, and a bunch of Lemon Cukes today. I need to cut back and harvest my New Zealand spinach, three times already. It grows crazy fast in the summer heat. I need to harvest kale when I harvest the spinach. I also need to prep three raised beds for planting, cabbage, Danvers, Navone Gold Rutabagas, turnips and beetroot. I’ve found that it is too hot here in Sylacauga AL, to plant potatoes past April 1st, but I will do a fall planting in the first two weeks of August.

My Seascapes re back to flowering and producing strawberries, and I am starting to get tomatoes and peppers. My squash and cucumbers are still producing steadily. I’ve harvested my first Burgess Buttercup and Sweet Dumpling Squash. More will be ready to pick in about a week.

My battle against the pickleworms is going well; I haven’t had any damaged cucumbers, or squash since they first appeared.

  8. Hi Gary, What is vermicompost? Is it same as earth worm casting? Is it worth to mix with container potting mix? Does earth worm casting has live worms in it? Which brand you suggest? Please advice Thanks

  9. Heads up, I harvest the hard neck garlic scapes, braking off an inch above the last leaf when they are a curly cue. There are so many wonderful recipes using these short lived rare treats 😉❣

  10. A man, discuss how you deal with critters. Several posts, in the past, from different people, are concerned with chipmunk, mice, rabbits and other varmints fucking with our crops. I think I have a good solution with the rat traps but how do you deal with them?

  11. Thanks Gary for all you do. QUESTION: black on tomato leaves, fungus? I’ve seen the yellowing and the black dots with the active yellow center but I have one plant where 80% of the leaves are BLACK. Really ugly. Also TONS of aphids on my tomatoes. I’ve sprayed Neem oil and used dust and finally Pyrethrin, and still lots of aphids. The Pyrethrin knocked about half off the plant but I have serious infestations each year with Aphids and lots of fungal diseases on plants. Any advice?

  12. I am happy to see you have leaf miners as well in your beets. I was worried but yours have done so well despite the leaves.

  13. what to do about army worms./ you do know that they are the things that are eating every ones tomato leaves right now, little bitty worms. dawn kills them on contact. like a door nail. does dawn kill any of our helper bugs and polluters,

  14. Gary, the vibrant colors of the ripe fruit & flowers in this video are really eye catching! After trying some expensive trendy micro dwarf varieties, I will stick with the tiny Tim primarily. The plants get to just the right size, set a lot of fruit, & they have that nice rich tomato flavor I look for. I've also had the plants put out a 2nd round of fruit after sitting essentially dormant in the garden for months after growing indoors over the winter for a harvest in early Spring.

  15. I've successfully grown rhubarb in Maryland for over 30 years. The key, in my opinion, is growing it on the east side of the house or garden, with morning sun and shade in the afternoon. Good soil with compost and a good mulch to retain moisture is also important. I hope this is helpful to someone.
