Have you all been watching @MarieKondo’s new show? I’m a huge fan of hers, her books and now her show and folks are often surprised to hear that since I’m such a maximalist!! Our books came out around the same time and during interviews journalists often asked me about her book, wondering if I thought it was strange that two of the best-selling home decor books were kind of opposite one another: one about minimalism and the other about maximalism. But I see no tension between my ethos and hers — I’m all about only keeping items around that (to use her words) “spark joy” — I suppose a lot of stuff brings me joy :D. Also, In my opinion, maximalism doesn’t have to mean having lots of stuff (though it can!), but it can also mean using bold color, lots of textures and lots of prints, and of course, and abundance of plants!! Also, I think maximalism works even better when things are very tidy and organized!! What do you think? Can maximalism and a minimal amount of ‘stuff’ coexist?
