my advice to building those micro populations is to never EVER spray any chemicals,the garden the wife and I have almost 40 years, NOT ONCE sprayed with chemicals .except the roses with a diluted washing-up liquid,we always get a great crop of Tomatoes lettuce cabbage ..and and and…oh and the peppers this year are looking great!
Recently found your channel and I am obsessed! I have my own (not so productive) kitchen garden and I am planning to watch as many of your video's as I have time for next couple of weeks to absorb as much information as possible to change that. Do you have a recomendation for a video that is an absolute must watch?
Best line! Gardening is Microbiology not chemistry! BTW .. I cried my way thru a year of chemistry and had to repeat microbiology because although I passed, my nursing degree required me to have a c.. they both fascinate me .. more the microbial world! I’m absolutely fascinated at the underworld.. just moving a container.. and the life that has moved in under it.. or when you dib in a hole and see the webbing of the microbial world.. and the crawling things. I love it!

Hold on, everything that happens in the garden is chemistry. Everything those microbes do is chemistry. There is organic and inorganic chemistry. I understand you are advocating the most natural forms of fertilizers we can use and resisting using insecticides. I agree!

Huw, a great intro to the Living Soil Food Web! I have been building the soil food web in my beds for years using such things as compost, Comfrey tea, EM, compost tea, and mulches. Have never needed any other fertilizers.

I cant get away from the fact that the concept of tilling the ground seems to be used so positively in the bible. How so?
Okay Huw (and your followers) here’s a question. I’m living in Spain so my soil is super, super compacted even though I use a timed and manual watering process, but the heat just literally bakes everything! Any advice? Likewise, my compost pile just dries out and doesn’t rot, and I’m trying to add more water, but it doesn’t rot as it would in the UK. Again, any advice appreciated.
