As title says, I purchased a 1yr old ready grafted L. williamsii in 2016 when I moved from NZ to Australia (only illegal cactus in both countries) and it has mainly been an indoor succulent as it seemed to struggle with our dry 40C+ summers and wet and cold winters.
Recently, the root stock has fully started dying. I’ve needed to prop it up with bamboo skewers to keep it upright, and some pups have fallen off, along with I had to cut out a section of rot 6-8 weeks ago.
I have 2 x T pachanoi that are 6-7’ tall and as thick as my arm so probably too big, and one Peruvianus that also would be too big.
However, I have a smaller Bridgesii that I’m wondering whether it could be used to save these lophs I’ve spent years and years growing into a grandfather.
Any advice is appreciated, I could go find some small pachanoi cuttings as I don’t think I have time to make my own and let them harden off.
Can I chop the peyote off and let it dry and keep it alive somehow? Or should I remove it ASAP and transplant to living stick immediately?
Thanks in advance! ❤️

I’d degraft that and cut out any rot and dust with sulfur. You can set it on perlite or inorganic substrate of your choosing and it will start to develop roots. Plenty of time to decide what graft stock to use next. I personally wouldn’t use that TBM it’s to pretty lol
I don’t think your pach is to big, you could chop a couple feet and get multiple grafts going if you wanted to.
No loss if you have been rooting cuttings or grafting cuttings all along…
For this plant, degraft. Remove all diseased tissue. Regraft or root the healthy portions.
I just performed surgery on the cactus, and there was rot right up the pachanoi and into the ball of calloused woody material that the pups all grew from. I probably had to throw away / slice off half the peyote flesh and peel each pup/button off and not a single one remained fully intact and healthy.
I have taken a photo of the current state of what I have ended up with: https://i.imgur.com/xsUt199.jpg
If I leave the peyote pieces in a room with a light air movement, and an average of 30-60%RH and 10-22C degrees, will they callous over and be able to grow roots?
Should I keep all the pieces or only certain ones? Have I cut at incorrect angles or made any mistakes? I didn’t want to leave it any longer, the rot was making it weaker day by day.
Here’s the link again of where it’s now at: https://i.imgur.com/xsUt199.jpg
I’m honestly just wondering how you got the tbm to be so damn gorgeous!
